This Privacy Policy explains how the WeatherRace application ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. WeatherRace is a motorsport weather companion app. We have designed it to be privacy‑friendly: the App itself does not require an account, and it does not collect or store your personal information on our servers. A separate beta-testing signup page does collect an email address — see "Beta Signup Page" below for details.

        The short version: The WeatherRace app uses your device
        location only to show you local weather, keeps your settings and cached
        data on your own device, and sends location or city information to a
        weather service solely to retrieve forecasts. We do not run user
        accounts, we do not sell data, and we do not use advertising or
        third‑party tracking. Our separate signup page collects only an
        email address, used solely to grant beta-testing access.
      

Location Information

If you grant permission, the App accesses your device's approximate or precise location (GPS coordinates) through your browser or device. This is used for a single purpose: to determine your local weather conditions and the nearest relevant information.

Your coordinates are stored locally on your device (in browser localStorage) so the App can remember your last location between sessions.
Your coordinates (or a city name you search for) are transmitted to our weather data provider, Open‑Meteo, only to retrieve the corresponding forecast.
Granting location access is optional. You can instead search for a city manually, and you can revoke location permission at any time in your device or browser settings.
We do not store your location on our servers, and we do not use it to identify or track you.

Information Stored on Your Device

To function offline and remember your preferences, the App stores the following locally on your device only. This information is not transmitted to us and never leaves your device except as described under "Third‑Party Services" below:

Your last known or selected location and cached weather data.
Your recent city searches.
Your display preferences (such as temperature units).

You can clear this information at any time by clearing the App's storage or your browser data, or by uninstalling the App.

Beta Signup Page

If you visit our beta-testing signup page (weatherrace.com/signup), the email address you provide is sent directly to our inbox (info@weatherrace.com) so we can add you as a closed-testing tester and reply with access instructions. This is separate from the App itself — installing and using the App does not involve this page or collect this information.

Your email is used solely to grant and communicate beta-testing access. It is not stored in a database on our end beyond our email inbox, sold, or shared with any third party.
Submitting this form is optional and only relevant if you want to join beta testing; and help us better the app and go public, it has no effect on using the published App.

Third‑Party Services

The App relies on the following third‑party services to function. When the App contacts these services, your device's IP address is necessarily visible to them, as with any internet request:

Open‑Meteo — provides weather forecasts and city (geocoding) lookups. Location coordinates or city names are sent to retrieve weather data. See Open‑Meteo's terms and privacy information at open-meteo.com.
FlagCDN — serves country flag images displayed in the App.
Netlify — hosts the App and provides server‑side, aggregate analytics (such as page views). This does not involve client‑side tracking scripts and is not used to profile individual users. Netlify also processes submissions from our beta signup page (see "Beta Signup Page" above) on our behalf. See Netlify's privacy policy.
WeatherRace data service (telemetry.weather-race.com) — our own backend, which the App reads from to obtain motorsport race schedules and results. No personal information about you is sent to this service.

What We Do Not Do

We do not require you to create an account or provide personal details.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
We do not display third‑party advertising.
We do not use advertising identifiers or cross‑app tracking.

Children's Privacy

WeatherRace is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not collect personal information through an account or profile, no such information is gathered from users of any age.

Data Security

Data stored by the App remains on your own device under your control. Requests to the third‑party services listed above are made over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
