This Privacy Policy explains how the WeatherRace application ("the App",
"we", "us") handles information when you use it. WeatherRace is a
motorsport weather companion app. We have designed it to be
privacy‑friendly: the App itself does not require an account, and
it does not collect or store your personal information on our servers.
The short version: The WeatherRace app uses your device
location only to show you local weather, keeps your settings and cached
data on your own device, and sends location or city information to a
weather service solely to retrieve forecasts. We do not run user
accounts, we do not sell data, and we do not use advertising or
third‑party tracking.
Location Information
If you grant permission, the App accesses your device's approximate or
precise location (GPS coordinates) through your browser or device. This
is used for a single purpose: to determine your local weather conditions
and the nearest relevant information.
Your coordinates are stored locally on your device (in browser
localStorage) so the App can remember your last location
between sessions.
Your coordinates are transmitted to our weather data providers only
to retrieve the corresponding forecast: Apple Weather, through our own
server and rounded to about 1 km, and Open‑Meteo as a
backup when Apple Weather is unavailable, and for next-hour rain or
hourly forecasts that Apple Weather doesn't offer for your area or
for the later days of the 10-day forecast.
To show the name of your town instead of "Current Location", your
coordinates, rounded to about 1 km, are sent through our own
server to Apple Maps, which returns the place name. The rounded
coordinates are used only for that lookup and are not stored by us;
the place name is saved on your device.
Granting location access is optional. You can instead search for a
city manually, and you can revoke location permission at any time in
your device or browser settings.
We do not store your location on our servers, and we do not use it to
identify or track you.
Information Stored on Your Device
To function offline and remember your preferences, the App stores the
following locally on your device only. This information is not
transmitted to us and never leaves your device except as described under
"Third‑Party Services" below:
Your last known or selected location and cached weather data.
Your recent city searches.
Your display preferences (such as temperature units).
You can clear this information at any time by clearing the App's storage
or your browser data, or by uninstalling the App.
Third‑Party Services
The App relies on the following third‑party services to function.
When the App contacts these services, your device's IP address is
necessarily visible to them, as with any internet request:
Open‑Meteo — provides weather forecasts and
city (geocoding) lookups when Apple's services are unavailable, and
next-hour rain or later-day hourly forecasts where Apple Weather
doesn't cover them. Location
coordinates or city names are sent
to retrieve weather data. See Open‑Meteo's terms and privacy

Apple Maps and Apple Weather — Apple Weather
provides the weather forecasts; Apple Maps converts your rounded
location into a place name for the App's header and looks up the city
names you type in the search bar. These requests are made from our
server, so Apple receives the rounded coordinates or search text but
not your device's IP address. See

FlagCDN — serves country flag images displayed in the
App.
Netlify — hosts the App and provides
server‑side, aggregate analytics (such as page views). This does
not involve client‑side tracking scripts and is not used to
profile individual users. See

WeatherRace data service
(telemetry.weather-race.com) — our own backend, which the
App reads from to obtain motorsport race schedules and results. No
personal information about you is sent to this service.
These providers process data only to deliver their service to the App
and are bound by their own privacy policies, which provide protection
equal to or greater than that described in this policy. Netlify may
retain standard server logs (including IP addresses) for a limited
period for security and operational purposes; we do not use these logs
to identify individual users.
What We Do Not Do
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for
your name, email address or other personal details.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
We do not display third‑party advertising.
We do not use advertising identifiers or cross‑app tracking.
Your Choices and Data Deletion
You can withdraw consent to location access at any time in your
device or browser settings; the App will continue to work using
manual city search.
Because we do not store personal data on our servers, there is no
account or personal data held by us to delete. All locally stored data
can be removed by clearing the App's storage or browser data, or by
uninstalling the App.
WeatherRace is intended for a general audience and is not directed at
children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from
children. Because the App does not collect personal information through
an account, profile or form, no such information is gathered from users
of any age.
Data Security
Data stored by the App remains on your own device under your control.
Requests to the third‑party services listed above are made over
encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be
posted on this page with an updated revision date.
